Your mission, should you choose to accept it

Ludwig von Terrible is a megalomaniac billionaire, hell-bent on destroying the world. Now a video has appeared detailing his evil plans and only your pupils can stop him. How? By using maths.

What is it?

A series of resources in which pupils, acting as secret agents, must defeat Ludwig by working through a number of mathematical problems.

How can it be used?

The lesson begins with a video featuring puppets and the voice of Ludwig threatening the world. This is accompanied by a mission statement and a series of tasks. The skills covered include:

- code deciphering;

- coordinates;

- map reading;

- simplifying algebraic equations;

- fractions;

- sequencing.

Pupils must work out what has been stolen, what Ludwig plans to do with it, discover where the item is, locate his base and dispose of his sidekick, before capturing their arch-enemy and destroying his hideout.

What is good about it?

This lively group project for key stage 3 pupils contextualises mathematical topics in a fun and competitive way.
