TEACHERS are to be presented with an unexpected Easter bonus - an illustrated booklet on the many achievements of the post-McCrone agreement.

Local authority leaders meeting in Edinburgh today (Friday) are expected to back further support for the TAC Team, the joint Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and Scottish Executive initiative to sell the outcome of the national agreement.

One of its tasks over the coming months will be to assemble a publication to celebrate the successes of the agreement. Authorities believe the improved continuing professional development framework, the emergence of the chartered teacher programme, increases in the number of support staff and new management structures deserve far higher recognition.

“The TAC Team intend to highlight this success focusing on what has made a real difference in schools,” council bosses were told.

Only SNP-led Falkirk has objected to making a financial contribution to the pound;160,000 costs but it is being asked to think again. The Executive matches the authorities’ sum.

Seconded officials from the Executive and the local authorities have joined forces to work through the detail of the agreement and track progress across the country.
