A Man, who manages a football team, makes a remark founded in his religious belief, his remark did not offend me, or any other disabled person that I know.

Despite this, we were subjected to a week of the media talking of little else until Mr Hoddle was dismissed from his post.

This week Mr Woodhead, a man with real power, made a far more dangerous statement based on his beliefs, beliefs that challenges the very tenets of professional responsibility. After a brief expose in the Sunday papers the matter has all but fizzled out.

It seems clear that Mr Woodhead will stay in post because he apologised. Clearly the media run the country; the only area of doubt is the extent to which the Government controls the media.
