Meet the trainee

Sita, 26, from Leamington Spa, is taking a PGCE in secondary IT at Westwood College, Warwick university

I want to become a teacher because... It's something I've always been interested in doing. I'm married, I've had a baby and having done a masters in IT and a degree in biology. I thought "Yeah, I'll try that".

My biggest inspiration at school was... my biology teacher, Mrs Millest. She was an amazing teacher and a friend too. An absolute angel who couldn't do enough for us.

The most exciting thing that's happened to me so far is... when I had to do a week at school, and seeing how things have changed, how things likechalkboards are now whiteboards. It makes you realise how old you are sometimes! Funnily enough, one of the kids asked me if I was their new teacher, and that was lovely.

I can't wait... to get my first teaching post and get all my work out of the way. I think back to Mrs Millest and hope I can be half the teacher she was. If I manage that, I'll be OK.

But I'm dreading... disciplining the kids. It's part and parcel of the job, but it can destroy the relationship and banter you've built up with the children and that can be a shame if you're lucky enough to have nice kids.

I would like my first job to be in... a smaller school. I'm goodwith names and I think it would give me a great opportunity to build up a rapport with the children and make education more fun for them.

I'll know I'm a teacher when... I get a placement and I'm out there working in the big bright world. When it becomes a way of life will probably be when I suddenly realise what I am doing.

If I wasn't going into teaching I'd be... working as a web designer. It's something I've always thought of doing. Other than that I've worked for NatWest and Barclays, but that was some time ago.

This evening I'm... spending some time with my baby.

If I were Ruth Kelly I would... love to bring back more effective discipline.

Power has been taken away from teachers which is bad for everyone. Kids are allowed to do too much now, without adequate punishment.
