I've just received my timetable and module handbooks for this semester.
What a shock! I think I'll say goodbye to my husband and children now, lock myself in my study and see them in May next year!
I want to become a teacher because I'm interested in the way young children learn and the different strategies needed in order to teach them effectively.
The most exciting thing that's happened to me so far was during my first teaching block. I'd planned a literacy lesson on poetry for a Year 2 class.
The poem was full of descriptive language about colour, texture, taste and smell. The children listened to the reading in awe. They created a wonderful piece of shared writing. Then they produced some fantastic pieces of independent work, which a colleague and I made into a class poetry book.
But I'm really not looking forward to exams. The thought of sitting in a room at a desk by myself, having to answer questions, fills me with fear and trepidation.
I don't understand how I am going to find the time to fit everything in.
Coursework, assignments, placements, planning, teaching practice as well as housework, two children with active social lives, my own social life (which is almost non-existent), family and friends. Thankfully I have a supportive, understanding and capable husband!
I hope I'll be the kind of teacher that is tuned into the kind of learner the children are as individuals. I hope I will be patient and approachable.
