Meet the trainees: at Sheffield Hallam

Age 37

I’ve just had a week’s holiday and I feel relaxed at last.

I want to become a teacher because I love working with children. I’m following on from doing a lot of voluntary work with them.

The most exciting thing that’s happened to me so far was getting accepted here as a mature student after coming in from working in the Health Service.

But I’m not really looking forward to my final NQT tests.

I can’t believe that PGCE students get their fees paid for them but we don’t. This doesn’t seem fair I’ll know I’m a teacher when children remember me after they leave school.

I would like my new job to be on an exchange with a school in New Zealand or a rural village school.

The best thing about Sheffield is it’s my home town.
