Primary schools should bring back collective singing so that pupils have a shared set of songs they all remember in the future.
This is one of the proposals from a report by the Music Manifesto, a coalition of more than 600 organisations and individuals involved in music education.
It called this week for a nationwide campaign to run until 2012, the creation of “a 21st century songbook for schools”, and local music education hubs to co-ordinate it.
