Mental heath: an issue for all of us

You asked me to comment on a report focusing on the mental health needs of “widening participation” students in universities (“Alarm at increase in student depression”, FE Focus, November 29).

I tried to make the point that mental health problems are distributed throughout the population.

There will be different causes, different problems and different support needs for different groups of people.

Any suggestion that black, Asian and low-income groups make disproportionate calls upon counselling and mental health services in universities must be misleading and unhelpful.

Your quote from me did not make this point clear.
