Student support took on a new meaning at the Kirk’s General Assembly last week (as usual at this time of year, we have to make clear we are referring to the Church of Scotland, not the principal of Moray House).
Wendy Simpson, an Aberdonian studying in Edinburgh who was a youth delegate to the Assembly, was pleading for studentsliving in strange places to be supported by their home congregations.
But this was a plea for virtual companionship, not a complaint about tuition fees. Her own minister, she explained, kept in touch with her by email.
