On Tuesday Midlothian education committee kicked off a consultative process which could see the Roman Catholic St David’s High and Dalkeith High become two schools on a single campus, sharing some facilities. The committee will take a final decision on January 11.

The Scottish Executive is backing the pound;33 million project, with places for up to 2,500 pupils, by pound;3 million a year over the next 25 years through the public-private partnership initiative.
