A new grant to help schools fund the additional language needs of children from migrant worker families settling in Wales has been created with “increased funding and more flexibility”, according to the Assembly government. From April, local authorities will be able to apply for the minority ethnic achievement grant (MEAG), a merger of the old EMAG and asylum-seeker grant -estimated at pound;8.1 million - for pupils up to the age of 18.
