Millions poured in to back the knowledge economy

Wendy Alexander, Lifelong Learning Minister, this week launched a pound;25 million support plan over the next two years to back the 19 university departments whose research has been given a five-star rating in the annual assessment exercise. This is said to be nearly three times the sum awarded in England. The money will be shared among six universities and is part of the Executive's drive to build a knowledge-based economy.
