Ministers urged to keep citizenship

Ministers have been warned that citizenship must remain a compulsory subject in England’s schools, amid fears that it is to be scrapped. The Association for Citizenship Teaching said it had been led to believe the subject would be made non-statutory in a planned shake-up of the curriculum. The Department for Education said that no decisions had yet been taken about the future of any subject.
