Nearly 410,000 children who live in poverty in England miss out on free school meals because their parents earn low wages but do not receive state benefits. The provisional finding comes from the School Food Trust’s third annual school meals survey. The trust said: “The entitlement criterion is approximately equivalent to setting a family income of pound;10,000 per annum, whereas the relative poverty threshold is just over pound;12,000 per annum.”
