THE old Further Education Funding Council report on key skills, and Steve Hook’s article “Students fall at key skills hurdle” (TES April 20), was interesting reading but inevitable The material point was completely missed. At present it is clear that key skills are following the old technical college path of liberalgeneral studies - to teminal boredom. The same position exists in secondary education, too.
If key skills is to be of any human capital significance it must be fully integrated into coursework.
This is structural innovative work for the new Learning and Skills Council.
