So where are the “great minds” that have influenced education today? Your columnist Anthony Seldon suggests 11 men (TES, May 2). Was it merely an oversight that the list did not include a single woman?

How about Jean Rudduck, Jennifer Nias, Caroline Gipps, Mary Jane Drummond, Louise Stoll, Gillian Pugh, Linda Darling-Hammond, Ann Oakley, Mary James, Wynne Harlen and Patricia Broadfoot just for starters?

Sheila Dainton, School governor and former education policy adviser, Hampshire

Kate Myers, Emeritus Professor, Keele University.
