The government architecture commission’s report (“High-class but poor quality”, TES, July 14), hits the nail on the head when it talks about the role of new school buildings in the future of education. Our fear is the lessons of the past five years have not been learnt by those involved in building new schools.

That’s why the British Council of School Environments was launched last month. This new organisation (made up of architects, construction firms, education authorities and schools) aims to guide people who want to create inspiring, functional schools.
