I HAVE so many different skill levels in my class that I am finding differentiation virtually unmanageable. I am afraid to admit this as today’s teachers are supposed to be able to cope with the implications of indiscriminate social inclusion.
YES, but within reason. Differentiation is a great idea. If you have three teachers working with a group - that will work, with planning and teamwork.
But just one teacher with a large mixed-ability class? The planning could overtake any social life you still have and there is no guarantee your bespoke teaching methods will work. Ask for advice and be prepared to accept that there is no perfect solution.
