Andrew Hill, information technology manager at the General Teaching Council for England, probably didn’t have time for Christmas or the New Year. Too busy by far. He was quoted by the Press Association newswire welcoming the development of technology to stop mobile phones being cut off in train tunnels, a “problem” the Diary has always thought as a great bulwark of civilisation.

Mr Hill disagreed: “It is important that our employees have greater flexibility as to when and where they work, be it on a train, in a hotel or at a school. Network coverage in tunnels will help overcome one of the perennial problems of working on the train and will allow us to work continuously whenever we are travelling.” Chop Chop busy busy work work bang bang. What exactly does the GTC do anyway?
