DESPITE Tim Cornford’s objection (TES, July 26), The TES was correct in saying that the Cognitive Abilities Test is very time-consuming. The Middle Years Information System (MidYIS) was designed to provide a baseline test by measuring typical performance. These aims are achieved by the use of a tape-recording. We welcome the improvement in CAT administration: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
