KS3: chart climate change over the years to practise numbers (temperatures), seasons, dates and weather expressions. Later in KS3 the same information could provide a thought-provoking stimulus for work on the comparative, superlative and tenses.
KS4: the theme lends itself to project work culminating in the production of a poster or illustrated brochure (foundation level) or a more complex piece of writing incorporating modal verbs, past, present and future tenses and opinions with reasons (higher level).
ASA2: students could research key issues on the Internet and present their findings to the class. A debate (environmentalists versus capitalists) would be an appropriate final activity. Encourage them to use persuasive language (eg rhetorical questions, the imperative) to drive their point home.
