Rock music is universally popular, providing all sorts of possibilities for language work in an interesting context. The MTV website of target language countries is a rich source. And there are plenty of other sites where students can catch up on gossip or source profiles of their favourite artists. Go to Google, click on preferences and select the language. At KS3, simple pen-portraits provide a vehicle for practising physical descriptions, birthdays, nationalities, leisure interests and more. KS4 students can produce more sophisticated text incorporating adjectives, adverbs, tenses and conjunctions. Budding musicians could create original music with lyrics written by their classmates.
