In successfully transferring the supermarket shopping environment to the PC, SPA has guaranteed the appeal of this program. For schools it will be a useful package to improve primary children’s understanding of money. It will apply to even older children who find maths difficult. Pupils will have great fun copying their parents when they go shopping at the supermarket, while not realising they are learning about money and maths at the same.

The opening shot is the entrance to the supermarket, but before entering through the double doors the menu bar should be set for how much you wish to spend - Pounds 5 to Pounds 25 and units of money, Pounds 1 units for young children down to 1p units for older children - and how to pay at the checkout. There are three choices: normal change, where the correct change is given; exact money, where only the exact money is accepted; and check change, where you are asked if you have paid the correct money or if the change is correct. There is also a choice of using a shopping list or picking items at random from the shelves.

On entering the shop there is a choice of eight aisles, each clearly marked with their various products - fruit and veg, frozen food, etc. One click on the noticeboard shows the items in that aisle with their prices.

There is an option to print out a price list of items, instal a password, hear British children’s voices and play music. The manual offers suggestions on using the program in the classroom and the package is completed with eight photocopiable worksheets for use away from the computer.

As a back-up to other class work using money, Let’s Go Shopping should prove a popular program with primary pupils.
