More funding for training has been unveiled by the Government, as ministers press on with skills initiatives to beat the recession. Lifelong Learning Minister Fiona Hyslop announced Pounds 3 million for an extra 3,150 Training for Work places. This was the first instalment of plans launched by First Minister Alex Salmond in April to use European Social Fund money to deliver 75,000 new places. John Park, Labour’s skills spokesman, said: “With 3,000 down, we have only 24 announcements to go before we hit the target.”
