A house dust mite magnified 135 times by an electron microscope. ‘Mites feed on shed human skin scales that make up house dust. There are probably about 10,000 of these small animals in your mattress, even if it’s clean. Some people are allergic to them. For such people, the mites cause asthma when they are breathed in.’
