Am I the only reader put off by pious talk of “moral purpose” when leadership is discussed by the likes of the National College or Sir Michael Wilshaw (“Council counsel”, Comment, 1 February)? When was educational leadership ever informed by “immoral purpose”? And how hypocritical is it that a leader such as Wilshaw, supposedly informed by “moral purpose”, presides over an organisation where three-quarters of staff do not believe it is safe “to challenge the way things are done in Ofsted” (“Ofsted staff say leadership requires improvement”, 1 February)?
