(Photograph) - MORE than 200 teachers protested outside Downing Street this week, accusing the Government of failing to tackle London’s recruitment crisis. Nick Grant, secretary of the National Union of Teachers’ Ealing branch, is pictured with members of all the main unions who gathered to hand over a petition to Prime Minister Toy Blair. They warned that the city’s staffing problems would increase unless teachers were offered better incentives to work in the capital. Demonstrators want the London weighting - currently pound;2,300 for inner London and pound;1,150 for outer London - raised to the level of pound;6,000 now enjoyed by Metropolitan Police officers.
