More boys than girls put in lower streams

One in six children is “streamed” by ability by the time they are seven, research suggests. Boys are more likely to be placed in bottom classes than girls, while children born in the autumn are more likely to be in top classes than those born in spring or summer, according to researchers at London University’s Institute of Education.
