HOW depressing to read Nigel Williamson’s anti-elitist contributions.

“Delivering the music young people want” because it is “part of youth culture” might satisfy him, but let’s not confuse it with the educational process of enlarging and enriching young people’s experiences.

Giving hem what they know is a cultural cul-de-sac, but opening their ears to the unfamiliar introduces them to new worlds for which some, at least, are likely to be forever grateful.
