More than one way into university

I WAS very pleased to read that Patricia Rowan (TES, June 16) supports the call to design a more sensible university entry system, so that A-level results are known before places are offered to students. The Sutton Trust too has been supporting this idea.

Her article, however, suggests that the Sutton Trust is advocating an American-styl Scholastic aptitude test as a replacement for A-levels.

We are funding the National Foundation for Educational Research to pilot such a test as a complement to A-levels but not as a replacement for them.
