I write as yet another further education lecturer under notice of redundancy.

I wonder, does my story seem familiar? New principal appointed, financial “crisis” uncovered. The solution? Drastic cuts in both student numbers and staff, although senior figures appear to be safeguarded. All this takes place against the deafening silence of the education media.

Why are questions not asked about the extravagant incompetence of the Learning and Skills Council and, yes, I do know the head of the LSC was dismissed, although on what financial package seems to be unclear.

Why is the pay and role of senior managers not discussed and, perhaps most importantly, why is this Government hell bent on destroying the FE sector?

Patrick O’Connor, Essex.
