Peter Peacock visited Glasgow City Council’s “playday” scheme on Wednesday - where he met Victoria McGloin (left), aged eight, and Hannah Scally, five - before moving on to launch the chartered teacher programme on which around 1,000 teachers have already embarked.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland was optimistic this week that universities would be able to meet the demand for places, 80 per cent of which is from women teachers, split equally between primary and secondary.
Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Dundee, Paisley and Aberdeen universities have won GTC backing for their courses, along with City and Guilds Scotland. Napier has approval for individual modules while Stirling and Glasgow universities are expected to come on stream later this month.
