The Mullen legacy lives on. Peter of that ilk, former head of Holyrood and Bellarmine secondaries in Glasgow (at different times, of course), is now truly immortalised. Staff from the two schools, which had first-hand experience of his leadership and charisma, compete annually for the “TGMR trophy” over 18 holes of golf.

This year Kingsacre course outside Edinburgh played host. The trophy was duly presented to the victorious Holyrood team at the traditional 19th hole, after which Big Peter was liberally toasted.

TGMR? It stands for “Thank God Mullen’s Retired”.
