Well done Penny Ward! What’s wrong with pupils knowing your first name? (TESS, March 12) we all have one. When I was in Paris as an exchange student in 1994, all of the pupils called their teachers by their first names.
I came into teaching late as a full-time mum, school helper, guide and scout helper. I was known in the community by my first name. It was very difficult for children in the classroom to remember to call me Mrs Cox and I was often called Miriam. Of course, I didn’t mind and the pupils knew this. It beats being called the wicked witch.
The best compliment of all is when a child tugs your sleeve and says “mum”.
