The school trip to the museum should be complemented by the museum’s appearance in the school. That’s the message of A Museum in the Classroom, a Campaign for Museums pack for teachers. It looks at the why, the what and the how of collecting in a broad range of settings. There are useful suggestions about sorting and classifying objects; about displaying them to best advantage; and on such finer points as the cleaning of fosils, the fading of fabrics and adhesives that will cause no damage.

A Museum in the Classroom is obtainable with a large sae (with a 66p stamp) from First Class Mailing Services, Unit 7, Britannia Trading Estate, Colnebrook, Slough SL3 0BH. The Campaign for Museums is at Grosvenor Gardens House, 35-37 Grosvenor Gardens, London SW1W 0BX. Tel: 020 7233 9796. Fax: 020 7233 6770. Website: www.24hourmuseum.org.uk
