While I do feel that A-level music does not necessarily cater for all musicians, at no point did I suggest that pupils are "turned off music at GCSE"; in fact it is a very good course.
I was dismayed at a quote on the front page, blaming "dry and old-hat" teaching methods for putting pupils off - a complete distortion of my comments.
Betsan Perrett Head of music Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg Barry
Editor's comment: TES Cymru felt the story was a positive reflection of Mrs Perrett's efforts to broaden music's appeal. We are happy to confirm that she said GCSE is better than the old O-level and A-level. She did say GCSE could be more vocational, and that "dry" and "old-hat" teaching methods have put pupils off music.
