The National Youth Choir of Scotland has launched a second series of songbooks for young people, show-casing 30 new songs.

For its first series in 2006, as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, NYCoS commissioned 10 composers with a strong Scottish connection to write three songs each to complement its musicianship training programme. They were published in three songbooks, Singbronze! Singsilver! and Singgold!

Its second set of songbooks - Singbronze2, Singsilver2 and Singgold2 - was officially launched at the NYCoS Kodaly Musicianship Conference last month at Stirling University.

Christopher Bell, artistic director of NYCoS said: “Our composers have really thrown themselves behind this project, and together we have crafted a wonderful resource for all choirs, school, community and high-level national groups.”

Five of the books’ original composers - Sally Beamish, Ken Johnston, Alasdair Nicolson, Sheena Phillips and Oliver Searle have been joined by Tom Cunningham, Stephen Deazley, John Maxwell Geddes, David Paul Jones and John Hearne.

The books also have specially-commissioned artwork on their covers created by Hilke McIntyre.
