Create a fair trade website

TES partner Traidcraft Schools, a leading UK fair trade organisation, has shared its resource “Writing Websites”. This teaches key stage 3 pupils how to create simple websites, how to consider their target audience and how best to convey important social issues.

What is it?

A lesson plan accompanied by a number of weblinks, designed to encourage pupils to think about fair trade issues. It starts with a short whiteboard thinking activity and leads into a research task where pupils look at an existing website and consider how well it serves its function. Pupils work in groups to develop content and can apply design skills to create their own fair trade website.

Why is it useful?

Adding a social cause to a design project helps pupils to develop cultural awareness alongside ICT skills.
