Jan Harper is a recently retired design and technology teacher who taught at Sweyne Park School (formerly The Sweyne School) in Rayleigh, Essex, for 21 years. She is the latest content partner sharing her materials with TES Resources and to date her resources for food technology, home economics and ICT have been downloaded over 70,000 times.

What resources are available?

Jan has contributed a wide range of design and technology resources to the teaching community through her profile on TES. They are available in Word, PowerPoint and PDF format - and are now free to download. One of her most popular pieces of material focuses on Food Practical Rules. Jan says: “This resource serves as a go-to guide for food practicals; from what to do with your ingredients first thing in the morning and how to wash up, to when to collect products and so on. GTPs, NQTs, ITT students and summer school teachers have all found it useful.”

Another resource from Jan is Key Words in Food Technology, where she has created a PowerPoint presentation of the most important keywords, which are presented with illustrations and definitions. This resource can be adapted to suit GCSE Damp;T food technology or GCSE food and nutrition, as well as certain aspects of the physical education healthy lifestyles topic.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“I realised it was probably time to retire when one boy said to another: `Your cake looks well sick.’ I chastised him for voicing what I was thinking, but then he replied that `sick’ meant `good’!”
