What I’m reading

Prezza - My Story: Pulling No Punches

By John Prescott

This is an interesting, down-to-earth account of John Prescott’s life, from his early days in Chester to his time as Tony Blair’s deputy. I picked this book up for #163;2 in a bookshop in Telford. When I got it home, I found it had been signed by the man himself.

The book I loved as a child

Biggles and the Leopards of Zinn

By Captain WE Johns

I read as many Biggles books as possible when I was young; they offered escapism and excitement. I remember being given some classic books such as The Hobbit, but the thickness of them scared me. So I often turned to Biggles and enjoyed playing out in my mind the excitement of flying to far-off places to do battle with evil villains. I think they appealed to a strange sense of time and place in me as a 14-year-old in the 1980s, complementing my addiction to 1930s Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Will Hay films.

Read this before you die

And It’s Goodnight From Him ... The Autobiography of the Two Ronnies

By Ronnie Corbett

When anyone asks me which book I have most enjoyed, I say this one. It is a humorous and touching story of two men who were the greatest of friends, and who complemented each other perfectly to create some of the great moments on TV when I was growing up. Read pages 289-92 and try not to shed a tear.
