Books
It never ceases to amaze me how good Khaled Hosseini is with words. The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are his only two books, and the only two I can really say I love to read, re-read and re-read. I’ve never read anything more gripping, involving or provocative. You actually feel you are on the streets of Afghanistan, soaking up the culture, but also being there when some of the worst atrocities a person could ever experience are taking place. It’s an experience! I’m getting into John le Carre just now, while also trying to attempt Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
Music
I can listen to the Kings of Leon on repeat, every day. I have a load of favourites, particularly: the Glasgow band, Glasvegas; an Australian band, The Potbelleez; and not forgetting MGMT and Passion Pit. Coldplay and Razorlight always seem to help me relax, and just generally make me feel better.
TV
The Apprentice and Top Gear are pretty unique, I reckon. They irritate the life out of me, but I can’t stop watching them. The Apprentice reminds me why I’m not in the business sector and Top Gear makes me wish I had my driving licence. My regulars each week that I claim are a must-watch for teachers are Waterloo Road (don’t judge me) and Question Time.
Film
When it comes to films, I like serious. My favourites have to be Inception, Shutter Island and the Bourne trilogy. I was going to say it’s because I like films with events you believe could happen in real life - but that’s not really true, I guess. When I’m in a good mood, Nacho Libre always makes me laugh.
