Reading

- I’m mostly a non-fiction reader. This summer I’ll tackle Damp Squid: The English language laid bare, by Jeremy Butterfield, on how the use of English is changing. I have also got Born Liars: Why we can’t live without deceit by Ian Leslie. The book is sitting on my table begging to be read. It’s about why lying is an intrinsic part of human nature. I’m looking forward to seeing the film adaptation of Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, having just finished the book. I listen to a lot of audio books so that I can multi-task and knit at the same time. I have lined up a few audio books for the summer, including The Help by Kathryn Stockett and Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Better get listening.

TV

- I love watching TV as a way to escape. I’m utterly addicted to talent - or lack thereof - shows, such as Britain’s Got Talent and American Idol. Secretly, I rate the dinner parties on Come Dine with Me and wonder what I would make if I were on the show; it is hard not to get sucked in. I have a business side, so I’m also a fan of Dragons’ Den - especially Theo Paphitis (pictured bottom left).

Music

- I love Bruce Springsteen and anything I can sing along with. Bruce is my music of choice because of his lyrics and incredibly catchy tunes. He has a great balance between mellow and rock. I love poprock and singer- songwriters. As a born-and-bred Canadian, I also spend a lot of time listening to CBCRadio-Canada. They have concerts on demand on their website. They post concerts of all genres for free listening. Check out Jill Barber for delightful old-jazz styling and Tom Cochrane for some great countrified rock.
