The head of a troubled secondary has quit after two years in post. Jim Collins, the principal of New College, Leicester, left his pound;70,000-a-year job last week. Staff and pupils had not been told of his plans to leave and the circumstances remain unclear. He will be replaced by Alan Andre, a former head who has been working at the Department for Education and Skills.
