As if one scandal were not enough in this of all weeks, a fax arrives on the Diary desk. It’s a clipping from the Manchester Evening News, and its headline screams: “Bully firm Mr Big is named by MP”.
“The ‘Mr Big’ behind a rogue housing repair firm exposed by the MEN was today named in Parliament,” it reports. “Chris Woodhead has been identified by a Salford MP...”
The firm, it says, has brought “fear and misery to pensioners”, bullying them into unnecessary repairs costing thousands. Sadly, it’s a different CW. In any event, MP Terry Lewis calls for new powers to prosecute the “untouchable bosses of unscrupulous businesses.”
The Diary can see at least 15,000 teachers nodding their heads in approval. Vigorously.
