The big issue for the SSTA is nomenclature, or what to call its new headquarters in Edinburgh. It even ran a pound;1 a go competition for members at its Aviemore extravaganza.

“Docherty Mansions” was one suggestion, in homage to the continuing presence of the Docherty family in the union. The late Jimmy Docherty helped found it, son Jim is assistant general secretary and his sister, Marie Allan, is education convener and a former president.

Other offerings doing the rounds were Whingers’ House or simply, Faulty Towers?
