(Photograph) - THE National Union of Teachers in Wales has called for a nationwide database of pupils after this school was found to have received thousands of pounds for “phantom” pupils who were no longer on its roll. Rhiannon Jones, the headteacher of Ynys Maerty primary school, near Neath, south Wales, resigned after it was disclosed the school continued to claim for 30 pupils after they had left for other schools, some as long as two years ago. The irregularity was only uncovered after the discovery that the school’s reserves had risen dramatically in the past year.
