A campaign about the plight of the Amazon has seen an Aberdeenshire school win a top prize in this year’s Young Direct Marketing Awards 2007.

A team of first-year pupils from Banchory Academy came first in the S1-2 category with their campaign for the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Teams from across the UK devised direct marketing campaigns for one of three charities: WWF, Barnardo’s and Beatbullying. The Banchory Academy team picked WWF and designed a campaign to raise awareness of the damage being done to the Amazon (pictured), tailoring it for both adults and children.

Lyn Forman, principal English teacher at Ban-chory Academy, said: “Education must not only prepare pupils for the real world, but help them appreciate the importance of charity work within our local community. These awards fulfil both these criteria, as well as enabling us to teach enterprise skills in an exciting way.”
