The number of 16 to 18 year-olds not in employment, education or training (Neets) fell to 177,000 in the last quarter of 2009 compared with 206,000 in the same period last year, figures showed this week. Schools minister Iain Wright said they showed “the action we are taking to invest in young people is working”. But the number of 18 to 24 year-old Neets increased in the same period by 41,000.
