England’s 68,000 examiners are to have their own professional body from next year, the Government’s qualifications regulator confirmed this week.

The Institute of Educational Assessors, which will open next spring, will offer examiners support, training and greater representation for an annual membership fee of pound;30 to pound;60.

Traditionally many examiners, who tend to work from home, have felt isolated, and often powerless if they are in disagreement with the exam boards who employ them.
