New chapter for books

You report research that identifies the benefits of spending on books rather than ICT resources (“Bucks on books get best results”, TES, May 19).

For years there have been ring-fenced funds for software under the e-learning credit scheme. We now have plenty of software and curriculum packages. These resources take time to introduce if they are to be used effectively, so buying more may do little to further enhance learning.

Interactive whiteboards also give access to a vast array of free ICT learning resources. On the other hand, there are minimal funds to fill the shelves of our recently expanded library.

In the light of the research, perhaps some e-learning money could now be diverted to books.
